- Don’t attach your self worth to your job.
- Just because you earn more than someone else doesn’t mean you should be happier than they are. And, more importantly, it doesn’t mean you’re better than them. The money you make in your job has no real reflection on your worth as a human being. Just look at any wall street banker.
- I have talents, interests and things to say that have nothing whatsoever to do with how I make a living. I’d prefer to talk about those things.
- Asking me what I do is the same as asking me how I trade my time for money
- If you love your job, I admire you. Truly. But don’t feel the need to emulate your path.
- Most of the jobs we do didn’t exist a hundred years ago. All of the jobs we do didn’t exist a few thousand years ago (taken to the extremes, we don’t even hunt or farm in the same way as before).
- People that can’t decide what ‘to do’ with their lives at 40 are no less clued into life than those that choose “wisely” at age 17.
- Most people hate their jobs. This is a fact. When we attach out personal values and worth to something we dislike we create a negative feedback loop.
- Psychologists often talk about how humans are happier when they are busy, productive, and have meaning in their lives. People often think that means having an important job. But you can be busy, productive, and live a meaningful life when you're unemployed, super rich, or even when you shun work completely.
You are not your job, you're not how much money you have in the bank. You are not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You are not your fucking khakis. You are all singing, all dancing crap of the world.
